This morning Carter landed himself yet another injury on his face that will make his 4th scar...his 3rd on the left side! He was home with a babysitter while I went to work and Evan finished up at a Masters Swim course. I wasn't even at work for 20 minutes when I found out that Carter fell and got a "pretty deep cut" from the fireplace. (We made it over 3 years without fireplace injuries!) I closed up the pharmacy and raced home to find my poor baby boy with a puffy eyebrow and Handy Manny "bam-baid." I could only see the edge of the cut under the band-aid, but could tell that it needed to at least be glued shut. I took him to the pediatrician, which he was not happy about and immediately cried as the doctor took the band-aid off. The doctor poked and prodded to see how deep and how wide the cut was. It's over an inch long - and Evan and I both gasped as we saw how deep it was. It's definitely worthy of at least 5 stitches but the doctor was pleased at how well it closed up when she pulled it tight...so she decided to clean it up and glue the heck out of it with Dermabond skin glue. Carter screamed - it's so hard to see him upset like that. There was no comforting him...and I hated it. However, when he had to get stitches in September, the "conscious sedation" part was the absolute WORST and i'm glad we didn't have to go through it again for this injury. Besides, the glue will result in less of a scar. Plus, it's easier to take care of and will irritate him less...hopefully. The glue has to stay dry for at least 5 days and will wear off on it's own. Carter, so far, has not been bothered by it at all. He is most upset about the fact that we wouldn't let him run today. He could not hold back the tears when we explained that we'd pitch him some baseballs but he wasn't allowed to run or slide today. Such torture for him! I should mention that the cut itself it not nearly as big as it looks in these pictures. He was screaming as the Dr tried to hold the cut closed and apply the glue, so blood kept bubbling out of the cut and the glue dried on top of it. Anyway, we're SO glad he's ok!!
